The Lake

This is a privately owned lake situated at 2500m and at the foot of a glacier. For years the spectacular panorama surrounding the lake has been photographed with the famous Matterhorn reflecting in its waters. The lake is 250m long, 50m wide and 5m deep in the centre.
Natural glacier water flows through the lake, entering through a stream and exiting via a small waterfall. This means the water is crystal clear making it easy to see up to two meters deep. Plus the climate is perfectly mild for a pleasant summer day out.
The lake enjoys pleasant temperatures and a high number of blue sky days. Even despite the clear sunny skies the mountain trout are unusually keen to take flys from the lakes surface. Approximately 75% of all catches are made with the beautiful art of dry fly fishing.

The Sedge fly is king on my lake, making Sedge and Caddis patterns deadly throughout the season. To see all the patterns produced by The Fly Factory please visit www.theflyfactory.co.uk.
Mountain Trout

Trout are the only fish found in Stellisee and were originally stocked 25 years ago as a food source for the nearby Fluhalp mountain restaurant. However exact number of trout held in the lake is not known, I estimate around 150 or more to date. The trout in the Lake are natural reproducing as a result of the inlet stream and outlet waterfall, ample foods sources and cold well oxygenated water. Very little is known about these trout and I have been catching all sorts of variations of Rainbow, Brown, even Arctic Char and of all sizes the biggest so far been 2 kg (shown in the image on your right), I am still sure that there are bigger fish yet to be caught as all these relatively wild fish have lived in the lake for some years. I expect to see quite some surprises this season.
In conjunction to these wild fish I will also be stocking the lake with 1kg and larger trout (browns and Rainbows). This will help keep the fishing interesting and also replace the trout we take to eat at Fluhalp.
